Cool crochet beanies

We finally got snow here in Helsinki, and the temperature went way below zero. So, I made cool, crotchet beanies ("pipot") for my girls ..

... but these were not cool enough. My girls wanted more "attitude" - girly skulls! So, I got rid of the star and the heart and added some "attitude".

I made one for their cousin as well ..

... and my husband wanted a really colorful one.

Little hearts to decorate the Christmas table

The day before Christmas eve, I had nothing to do. So, I went to the local yarn store, and bought some yarn. I wanted to try out this thick cotton yarn (Kalastajan lanka) and ended up crotcheting these little hearts to hold the napkins in our Christmas table. The "diamonds" we bought earlier with my girls, and I think that the combination is quite festive.

The pattern for the heart I took from here:

Crochet purse for concerts

My sister goes to a lot of concerts and she does not have a little purse. So, I made one for her as a christmas present. Let's see if she uses it ...

The idea for the circle came from here:

Festive crochet purse

I got invited to a 50-year birthday party. The event is next saturday. I do not have a nice purse to go with a little vintage black dress, I found buried in my closet. So, I decided to make a crochet purse.

The dress is black, so the purse needs to be black, but with some glitter to give it a festive feel.

The shoes I will wear, have a splash of blue....

So, the inside of the purse is of course ... blue...

And, now, I am just waiting for the party to begin.

Centre piece for a dinner table

Rough piece of wood combined with crotchet roses makes an elegant centre piece for a dinner table. Maybe I will use this for Christmas dinner this year.

Christmas Decoration: Crochet Hearts

At times it feels good to make beautiful things, that are easy and quick to make. You can crotchet a heart like this in a couple of hours.

First, you just need a a piece of wire you can bend into the shape of a heart.

Then you take some left-over tricot and you crotchet a round of single crotchet ("kiinteä silmukka", not sure if the translation is correct, sorry if not).

Once the heart is covered, switch to a thin yarn and make a round of single crotchet (three loops in one tricot loop).

On the second round, make three chains and fix your chains with a single crotchet.

On the third round make one single crochet two chains and one single crotchet to each chain ring.

And - voilá - your heart is done... I got carried away and made a few.

May Christmas come - Draculaura's recycled wreath

I am a Christmas person. I start putting candles, lights and Christmas decoration early in November. My favourite task is to design a wreath ("ovikranssi") to our front door. This year I started the work by crocheting roses ...

... Then I thought I will melt and sew together some nice looking plastic bags (thank You Piia) and covered the wreath with them...

... Finally, I combined the two and added Draculaura in the middle. Now, Christmas and the snow can come!

Few weeks after I made another one for my god daughter and put Robecca in the middle.

Beach house inspired shelf

My husband does not crochet, but he makes thinks out of wood. This beach house inspired shelf was built last summer. The roof is a chalk board, kids can draw on. The body of the shelf is a recycled "Lundia". Cool, isn't it?

and finally, the beach house has a light as well.

Bags for girls

My girls go to dance lesson, where they normally take a pair of shorts and a tank top to wear. The problem is always the same: "I can not find a bag, that would not be too big nor to small". School bags are huge and my shopping bags do not look cool enough.

So, during my little autumn holiday last week I made two "in-between" bags for the purpose. The little details (the button and the tassles) were my girls' ideas.

Fake fur is still in

These vests I made actually last winter. The "thing" in these, is the colorful fabric inside. My girls just love these.

Men's shirts make great aprons

My girls like cooking. Last time we baked I noticed that Their old aprons had become too small. So, This week-end I took two old men's shirts, that a friend of mine kindly gave to me, and converted those into these girly aprons. Inspiration for these came from the book Sewing green by Betz White. These are easy and fairly quick to sew.

This is from the inside. Using the collar of the shirt on the waist, makes the waistband steady and fitting.

Crochet basket

I love making baskets. They are so quick to crochet. In these ones I added a little frill to make them a bit more romantic.

Crochet tunic

Making this tunic took some months. The pattern is from Novita magazine, Summer 2014. I just modified the model a bit by eg, adding the bow to make it look less like a tent and more like a dress. Pretty happy with the outcome.

Crochet a rose

I made these roses, following the instructions in this blog:
http://byninuska.blogspot.fi/p/blog-page.html
The roses are quick and easy to crochet. By putting a safety pin on each of them, I plan to wear these in hats or bags... or then the little girls in the family will steal these.

Striped crotcheted pillow

Crotcheting this pillow took me 3 weeks, 500 g of yarn (100% cotton) and patience. It is 52 cm x 52 cm.
