Pink flower wreath

It is Christmas time. So, of course, I felt like making yet another wreath. It is no that Christmas-like, but who cares.

It all got started with a heart. I crocheted a band that covers the heart

The color, baby pink felt too sissy, so I took my spray bottle out and did some spraying.

I also crocheted little flowers of equal size and sprayed them a little bit as well.

I sew all the flowers on the heart one by one

and hung the wreath on my door. Now Christmas may come. I'm all set up for the holiday season.

Easy-to-make Dracula cape

Everything starts with a great design... So my daughter made this sketch for her to-be Halloween disco outfit.

And off we went with the design to Eurokangas (a fabric store in the Helsinki area where they have great service!). We bought red cloth for the lining and black one for the top layer.

As I have never done a cape before, I consulted a more seasoned cosplay cape-maker on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TBIa24-CPD0

I cut two half circles (the ones below are folded into quarters of a circle) out of both pieces of cloth and made a round neck line.

For the collar I used buckram ("kovikekangas"). The collar needs to match your neckline on the cape of course - measure. Otherwise you are in trouble.
Below is how I cut the collar and the three pieces I sew together.

In the design there is a white frill on the neck. For that piece I just gathered few layers of white lace and put an elastic band around the neck.

The outcome....

.. is Cool!

Halloween gear: Ear band for a werewolf

So it is Halloween period and my girls need outfits for their yearly Halloween disco. I started the job with ears for a little werewolf ("ihmissusi").

I took a normal hairband and covered it with a brown crochet ribbon

I crocheted ears and filled them with cotton wool.

And this is how it looks on me... the ears are not adult size, clearly.

Old jeans make a great bag

Past July I came across a pair of white jeans I never use. What could I do with them? I can not wear them anymore, but it is a shame to throw jeans like that away.
I also bought a few sprays, that you can use for colouring cloth. So, I started spraying on our balcony...

It became obvious pretty soon, that trousers like this, are just too hippy for someone of my age to wear (even in Käpylä, which is the hippiest neighbourhood in Helsinki).

Weeks passed... and while we were in Italy, on holidays, my daughter Sofia suddenly expressed that she needed a bigger bag for her ballet gear ... while we were in a Gucci store!!!. Looking around at these extravagant prices of bags ... I had a Heureka moment: I will make a bag for my daughter from the jeans I had sprayed.

So, finally today, after a few hours of cutting and sewing ... I finished a perfect training bag for my daughter. She's happy and my jeans have a new life :)

Lace poncho for a girl

I finished Poncho N:o 2 this morning.

Here is the lace pattern I repeated  (46 rounds).

Six yellow rounds, two flashy pink ones, six yellow ones, two baby pink ones, six yellow rounds ...

Until I had these two rectangular pieces.

Sewn together.

Finishing all the ends..... (toughest job!)

After 16 hours of crocheting, 200g of yellow yarn, 60g of flashy pink one and less that 50g of baby pink - Done!

Linen summer blouse

My first week of summer holidays has started off well. Once the sun was gone for a day or two I had time to finish this little summer blouse.

It is made out of linen yarn, I found in a mysterious bag full of yarn, I had hidden in my closet.

The toughest part was to figure out where the yarn starts.

Please, yarn makers, make it easier for us!

Front and back pieces.

Sleeves. I made the sleeves a bit bigger to give them this loose summerish look.

The outcome is pretty sweet, I think. So quick and so easy to crotchet.

Now the BIG question is: What next?

Flower poncho

This flower square poncho took a while to make, but was worth the effort.

I just started crocheting these flower squares...

'
.. and kept on making those... as I needed 48 in total!

Then, I sewed the squares into a poncho and made a little lining.

Cute, nice and warm for the Finnish summer nights! Happy midsummer.

Black crochet blouse

I started this project, because I found this really colourful Missoni yarn from my closet. I inherited it from my mom years ago and have not had so far any brilliant ideas how to use it. So, I started crocheting  a flower circle from it.

And ended up making a short-sleeved blouse around it.
I did not have enough colorful yarn for the backside, so the flower circle in the back and on the sleeves is black.

Inspiration came (again) from Virpi Siira's patterns: http://omakoppa.blogspot.fi/

Happy Mothers' Day!
